Situated in the stunning Pemberton Valley in British Columbia, Myrtle Meadows is a local family-owned, mission-driven farm committed to growing premium quality, great-tasting and unique strains of hops for craft brewers, made possible by our team’s expertise, our state-of-the-art technology and the perfect hops-growing climate in Pemberton.

Growing Hops in the Pemberton Valley

What really sets Pemberton Valley apart is its terroir—its natural environment, including factors, such as soil, topography, wind, temperature and climate.

Summers are hot and dry, while winters get good snow coverage that protects the crops from heavy frost.

Further, hops require plenty of sunlight and water, both of which Myrtle Meadows sees no shortage. Our hops crops face due west, ensuring the maximum amount of daily sunlight, while we also receive plenty of rain at various times of the year.

While hops crops do require plenty of water, they also don’t like having wet roots, so irrigation is incredibly important. Our location—right next to the Lillooet River—means our soil has both natural drainage capabilities and perfect fertility. We also produce our own compost to increase organic matter in the soil to hold nutrients in our crops.

In 2020, we partnered with Kwantlen Polytechnic University on a report comparing our hops to other commercial hops - we’re happy to say the report demonstrated the superior quality of our hops that our customers often speak to.

Our Story

Surrounded by stunning snow-capped mountains, the remote and picturesque Pemberton Valley has played a special role in our founders’ lives.

The Milne family was first introduced to Pemberton Valley in 1984, when Rob, an aspiring entrepreneur in his early 30s, started a business selling burlap sacks to potato farmers. At the time, the land where Myrtle Meadows sits was owned by one of his first customers.

Named after their first grandchild Myrtle, Rob and Diane Milne’s vision for their 277-acre farm is to transition it from a traditional, non-organic potato farm, into a sustainable and organic mixed use farm that operates in harmony with its environment.

Inspired by the growing craft beer market in British Columbia, long-time Vancouver entrepreneur Rob Milne and his wife Diane purchased the land that has become Myrtle Meadows Farm in Pemberton, B.C. in 2016.
